Elemental Talents

4.2 has brought some mixed bags of joy and sorrow. Thankfully not for Elemental Shamans well no more than usual. As far as elemental talents go not much has changed in terms of PvE. The major alterations are our spells and which glyphs to choose.

Elemental Talents

For the most part haven’t been changed so I’ve stuck with my original build – [34/7/0] – but switched my glyphs around to better suit my usual raiding stance. in other words running around like a headless chicken trying to find that 3 sec gap to knock out a lighting bolt or lava burst.

So choosing my prime Glyphs wasn’t as hard as I had though it would be. Glyph of Lightning Bolt as useful as 4% more lightning bolt damage is great for fight that I don’t spend 80% of the time running to or from something.

So when given the choice of two new potential prime Glyph contenders I couldn’t wait to get testing. Now first we have Glyph of Fire Elemental Totem, now this is a great glyph reducing the cooldown to 5min make the potential dps boost worth getting this for any boss fight. Yet as good as this glyph seems it has two problems. One the elemental is still a little buggy in combat and has major range issues. Two it still leaves you running around with not much too do.

With the Recent elemental talents upgrades will make Lightning bolt the new best friend

Which is why my glyph of choice has to be Unleashed Lightning this alone will turn any Elemental shaman into a lightning producing machine. Not only that it will allow our class to regain some of our lost ability, giving elemental talents an edge in both PvE and PvP.

Elemental Shaman Talents

The Elemental Shaman Talent Tree opens up a wide range of single target, AoE and dps buff’s. All of which allow the shaman to deal a massive amount of damage from a distance, while still utilising many of the shamans core abilities.

The biggest Advantage the elemental shaman has over the other 2 specc’s and most other classes is their ability to regenerate mana while casting and unlike Restoration Shamans dependence on Spirit and Mana Tide Totems. The Elemental Shaman utilises their lightning bolt and thunderstorm spells allowing constant casting. The only exception to this is when continued AoE is required.

For standard raiding specc (34/7/0) is the current best option though there is space to switch 2 points out of Convection and into Elemental Warding. This though is more a personal choice as mana isn’t a major issue and most encounters have a lot of AoE and splash damage.

The other two viable raiding specc’s are (32/9/0) – This build has  Totemic Reach and Convection

or (32/9/0) – This build has Reverberation and Totemic Reach

With all three of these specc’s neither give a dps boost over another. These come down to personal play style.

For Glyph’s there are only five must haves.

Prime GlyphsGlyph of Lava Burst, Glyph of Lightning Bolt , Glyph of Flame Shock

Major GlyphsGlyph of Lightning Shield, Glyph of Thunder

The remaining four glyph’s are your choice.
